Once again, there are a plethora of choices if you'd like to do some Christmas shopping for handmade items this weekend.
The Hilltop Holiday Craft show (mentioned here) continues through 5 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday).
Northwest Holiday Arts 2007, in Redmond, runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow. Old Redmond School House Community Center, 16600 NE 80th, Redmond, WA 98052, 206.407.7620.
The Urban Craft Uprising is on Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. This is at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, and more information is available here.
The Punk Rock Flea Market starts at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday), and will run till late (probably around midnight). There is a $1 entry fee for shoppers, but the proceeds go to benefit the Low Income Housing Institute. This show will be a mix of handmade with flea market stuff, but it's a lot of fun. They start selling beer in the afternoon (bring your ID), and there are bands starting around 6:30 p.m. The location is: 2407 1st Ave., between Battery and Wall Streets (Belltown, in downtown Seattle).
The Edmonds-Woodway High School 2007 Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair is on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is located at: Edmonds Woodway High School, 7600 212th Street SW, Edmonds, WA 98026.
Saturday night, for the late night crowd, is the DEFMODE Midnight Market III, at the Lo_Fi Performance Gallery, 429 B Eastlake Ave East, Seattle, WA. This event starts at 9 p.m. and runs until 2 a.m. Sunday morning. There is a Door Cover of $7 plus a Food Donation for NW Harvest. They suggest bringing cash for shopping, and this event is a 21+ event.
Moving on to Sunday, THREAD Seattle is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Fremont Studios, 155 North 35th Street, Seattle, WA. More information on this event can be found here.
And finally, if you're in Portland on Sunday, there is I Heart Indie Holidays Portland, from 12 noon to 5 p.m., at Portland's Wonder Ballroom. More information on this event is here.

Join me in wishing a very happy birthday to Trina, of Woven Chains. Trina makes chainmaille jewelry: earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and more!
Although I really love the colored links that she uses in her chainmaille, I also appreciate the elegance of just silver links in these Japanese flower earrings. They're super shiny, so they would catch the light just wonderfully--I suspect they'd look amazing under the lights of a Christmas tree, in fact. :)

If you're looking for an opportunity to do some holiday shopping, but find that you never manage to make it to the smaller craft shows, check out the Hilltop Holiday Craft Show in Bellevue, beginning today.
Unlike many shows, which only last a single day (usually a Saturday), this show begins today, and runs until Saturday afternoon. The hours for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (Nov. 28-30) are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (leaving time for the working crowd to shop in the evening), and on Saturday, December 1st, the show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This show also features a centralized checkout system, which means that you can pick all of the things you want from a variety of vendors, and pay for them all at one location. How easy is that? :)
The Hilltop Holiday Craft show takes place at the Northwest Arts Center, 9825 NE 24th Street, Bellevue, Washington.

In addition to today being Thanksgiving, today is also Katy's (of Sycamore Baby) birthday! Now that's gotta be a wonderful birthday! Lots of good food and friends and family all around! :)
Katy makes all sorts of adorable things for kids and babies, including embellished onesies (scroll down a few posts to see one of those) and headbands, like the one in this post! She's also one of the members of EtsyRain who is a Seattle native--not a lot of those running around! :)

Each of these bags contains five items which would normally sell for $10 each (5 items x $10 each = $50 value). We're offering these gift bags for $25, so basically at half their normal price! And let me assure you, this is some amazing stuff. I was involved in the preparation of the general gift bags, and I'd pretty much love to receive any of the items in one of these gift bags. There are also gift bags filled with kid and baby items, and knowing who contributed to those, I am sure that they are similarly wonderful!

Wishing a very happy birthday to Deanna, of db designs. Check out her shop for all sorts of creative and colorful items made from wood, as well as jewelry.
This beautful little heart-shaped box is a favorite of mine. What a cute way to store a few small items on an end table or on your dresser!

If you're in the Seattle area, there are plenty of opportunities for you to check out some EtsyRain sellers' wares in person over the weekend:
In Renton, it's the Hassle Free Holiday Bazaar, at the Renton Community Center, 1715 Maple Valley Highway, Renton, WA 98057. This Bazaar runs Friday, November 16th, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, November 17th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over 100 vendors will be selling crafted items.
In Puyallup, it's the Zeiger Elementary's 5th Annual Holiday Craft Fair, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 17th. I don't have an address for this one, but I suspect people familiar with the area can find it.
In Magnolia, there's a craft show at Lawton Elementary, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 17th. Lawton Elementary is at 4000 27th Ave W, Seattle, WA 98199.
For the late night crowd, who thinks that 9 or 10 a.m. is too early to be at a craft fair, UNZiPPED & Buttoned-Up are having a fashion show featuring independent designers from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 17th. There is a need to purchase tickets for this one, but they are offering appetizers and there will be cocktails! Also, the sale portion of this event is on Sunday, November 18th, with a buyer preview from 10 a.m. to noon, and open to the public from noon to 6 p.m.
Finally, on Sunday, November 18th, there is a children's art sale at All For Kids Books, 2900 NE Blakely St., 1 block north of UVillage. This runs from noon to 5 p.m. I happen to know, from inside information, that the Grinch will be attending this event, to celebrate his 50th birthday. Sweet! :)
Totally adorable onesie in Christmas colors from Sycamore Baby's shop.

Tomorrow night, November 1st, is the event of the year! :) Ten EtsyRain sellers will be at Stir Boutique (216 Alaskan Way, under the Viaduct and across from the Ferry Terminal), at the Kick Off the Holidays Sale. This event runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., as a part of the First Thursday Art Walk in the Pioneer Square area.
The list of artists with their Etsy shops can also be found here, but we'd really love to see you in person! Get a head start on your holiday shopping, far in advance of the crowds and headaches!

If you're looking for a place to get some Christmas shopping done this weekend, why not check out the Redmond Holiday Craft Bazaar?
The location is: 8703 160th Ave NE, Redmond, WA, and it runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Though it won't be populated almost entirely with EtsyRain sellers, as the Fall Thing was, Anandi (Anandi's Laboratory) and I (ScaryWhiteGirl Designs) have a table, where we will be selling jewelry and crocheted items. Come by and say hi! :)

If you're in the Seattle area, there are two upcoming opportunities to buy Seattle-made craft items from members of EtsyRain in person.
The first event is tomorrow, October 18th, at the Women's University Club Holiday Show. This is located at 1105 Sixth Avenue, and runs from 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The only EtsyRain member I know for certain will be there is Kelly of Tomato Tomato, but there will be other crafters there as well.
The second event is Saturday, October 20th, at the Phinney Ridge Community Center. Dubbed the "Fall Thing," this event will be attended by MANY EtsyRain crafters. There will be a nice selection of different styles and mediums. This event runs from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and the location is 6532 Phinney Ave. N (Phinney Ridge area).

Some of our members scour area GoodWill stores and other thrift stores for components for their crafts: from jewelry to wool sweaters to belts. Others scan the remnant bins at fabric stores for small pieces of fabric that no one else wanted, or use every last scrap of fabric that would have been discarded from a larger project. The different things that EtsyRain members do with recycled, upcycled, and repurposed materials are as diverse as our membership!
Check out the EtsyMini in the left hand sidebar for a small selection of EtsyRain sellers who have reused materials to create their artistic and crafty items. You can also search Etsy for "etsyrain" with "recycled," "repurposed," or "upcycled."

EtsyRain would like to wish a very happy birthday to our very own Laura, of LAS Designs!
Laura's Etsy shop is a mix of adorable embellished onesies and some really neat ceramics. This ceramic head is a big favorite of mine, and would make a great Halloween decoration! (Click on the picture to see the other views--the side view is similarly great!)

The members of EtsyRain are just finishing up our first "Creative Challenge." The theme for this challenge was Halloween. If you'd like to see all of the EtsyRain Halloween themed items, click here (takes you to an Etsy search). This is just a small sampling of some of the cute and spooky stuff that our members have created.

Rosalie of UglyBaby is having a birthday today, so I thought it might be nice to show off some of her nifty shower art. This seahorse is just too cute, and has red and green stuff in his brain. :)
You could also go check out her other project, bARTer Sauce, and leave her comments all over the place. That would be fun. :)
And, of course, if you want to wish her a happy birthday in person, tomorrow is First Thursday, and she and her studio partner, Kimberly, will have their studio, Stir Boutique open to the public tomorrow night.
So happy birthday, Rosalie!

Etsy.com is a website for people to buy and sell all things handmade. A good number of Seattle based Etsy sellers (over 100 already!) have organized into a street team, which we decided to name EtsyRain. The street team is open to anyone in the Seattle area, but we define "area" very broadly--there are sellers who live more than 2 hours away from downtown Seattle involved in this group.
Our blog is to let the world know about cool things that the sellers of EtsyRain are doing--whether that is sales, local events, or exciting happenings. We've got several different authors who will be contributing to this blog, and I'll be continually adding links to the left hand column, so that you can browse through the wide variety of items available in our Etsy shops. (You can also use "etsyrain" as a search term on Etsy to find many of our items.)
If you're an Etsy seller who is interested in joining EtsyRain, just check out our Meet-up. We'd be happy to have you!
