Eco-friendly goods from Handmade RAIN artists!

Did you know there are several ways that our artists try to be eco-friendly?  Here are just a few:

The sterling silver that Marlo Miyashiro from Marlo & Natasha Studio uses to fabricate her jewelry is certified reclaimed.

The soap that Kim Wilton at Pepo Park makes is vegan.

The paper that Sarah Rollinger at Tutta Lou Press prints on is part post-industrial waste cotton.

And of course Heidi Kappes Belinsky of Haute Goat Cashmere reclaims the 100% cashmere fabric for her scarves from second-hand sweaters.

Meet the Makers: Heidi Kappes Belinsky of Haute Goat Cashmere

Heidi Kappes Belinsky was given her first sewing machine around the age of 5 – about the same time she started reclaiming fabrics to use in her projects (doll clothes mostly).  She is a true Gemini with degrees in both Apparel Design and Botany. She has melded her love of creating with the need to discover by teaching herself fiber forensics and learning how to recognize cashmere from other fibers using a microscope.

What is “reclaimed”?
